Chandra X-ray Study of Galactic Supernova Remnant G299.2−2.9
We report on observations of the Galactic supernova remnant (SNR) G299.2−2.9 with the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. The high resolution images with Chandra resolve the X-ray-bright knots, shell, and diffuse emission extending beyond the bright shell. Interior to the X-ray shell is faint diffuse emission occupying the central regions of the SNR. Spatially-resolved spectroscopy indicates a large for...
متن کاملG 332 . 5 – 5 . 6 , a new Galactic supernova remnant
We present radio observations of the source G332.5–5.6, a candidate supernova remnant (SNR). Observations have been performed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) at two frequencies, at 1.4 and 2.4 GHz. Our results confirm that G332.5–5.6 is an SNR, with a spectral index α = −0.7±0.2 for the whole source and an average fractional polarization of ∼ 35% at 2.4 GHz. The central compon...
متن کاملA Possible Supernova Remnant High above the Galactic Disk
We present the analysis of three Suzaku observations of a bright arc in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey 1/4 keV maps at l ≈ 247, b ≈ −64. In particular, we have tested the hypothesis that the arc is the edge of a bubble blown by an extraplanar supernova. One pointing direction is near the brightest part of the arc, one is toward the interior of the hypothesized bubble, and one is toward the bubble ext...
متن کاملPulsar/Supernova Remnant Associations
Pulsar/Supernova Remnant Associations Vicky Kaspi Infrared Processing & Analysis Center, Jet Propulsion Laboratory/ California Institute of Technology Since the discovery of the first pulsar/supernova remnant association not long after the discover of pulsars themselves, the number of proposed associations has grown to nearly 20. In this talk we will critically review the known and proposed sup...
متن کاملScalability of supernova remnant simulations
Many hydrodynamic processes can be studied in a way that is scalable over a vastly relevant physical parameter space. We systematically examine this scalability, which has so far only briefly discussed in astrophysical literature. We show how the scalability is limited by various constraints imposed by physical processes and initial conditions. Using supernova remnants in different environments...
